The Ninja Turtles: Legends app is a turn-based fighting game. You start as just one turtle, and you fight your way across New York. As you progress along the story, you join up with your turtle pals, and a few others, and you fight your way through an increasingly large army of fighters. The game is free to download and play, but it does come with some expensive in-game app purchases. There is also a bonus feature in the game where you can use cards as power ups.
There are 35 unique characters to collect and play
Your aim of the Ninja Turtles: Legends game is to collect cards. They feature a whole bunch of things, from other characters to slices of pizza. If you collect a player card, then you may play that player within the game. The fighting is turn-based, which means you stop and wait for your opponents to hit you, and then you hit them back. Progressing through the early stages of the game is easy because you are overpowered, but it becomes more difficult as you join forces with other fighters and take part in group fights. You can level up your players (and cards per se) both by grinding and by paying money. It costs a lot of money to buy cards and subsequent power ups, but it also takes a lot of grinding for you to earn them.
It looks and plays better than the trailer gives it credit for
The graphics and design of the Ninja Turtles: Legends game is actually better than what you see in the trailers. The trailers feature cut scenes with blocky characters that look like they come from the 1996 PC era, but the game design and graphics are actually far better. The menus and card designs have a very "comic book" feel to them, and the artwork is of a high quality. The actual fighting side of the game is also very smoothly and professionally done. Things such as the fighting effects have fluid feel to them that is reminiscent of the Spiderman and X-Men games for the Playstation 2. As you advance through the game, you will find more and more players to play with. It is possible to play much of the game without actually using the Ninja Turtles, which seems like a bad thing, but it adds a fair amount of variety and flavor to the game. It takes a lot of grinding to earn the cards, but most of the game is actually very easy. This includes the controls, which are also overly simplified. Luckily, this is undercut a little by the character variety. Collecting power-ups is actually easier than collecting experience. For example, you may have to find up to 500 experience points to level up, and yet a single boss fight may only yield 5 experience points.
The game is free, so if you can get it to work, then it is worth giving the game a go. Fighting your way through waves of enemies can be fun, and the levels/stages are easy enough that casual gamers can enjoy it too. The biggest downside is that the game is very money-grubbing and overly reliant on you spending money, but if you don't mind a lot of grinding, then this game should provide you with hours of fun.
